Lost. Twenty-six. Crying at work.

I am lost. I know it’s ok to be lost, but I would love your insight about what career fields I might try. I am 26, and have worked at 2 nonprofits. I am bored at work. I am so bored that I’ve started waiting tables at night so I can be challenged and push myself and work 70 hours a week. I love to work. I want a job that is so hard and challenging and so tough that sometimes I cry in the bathroom at lunch. I want to use my brain and my energy. The problem is I don’t know where to go, what industry might be a good fit for me. Do you have any ideas?

Go look at the book Do What You Are. Here’s a link.

Figure out your Myers Briggs score. Then there will be a list of the types of jobs that will be good for you. The book is really reliable, and it’s a system that most Fortune 500 companies use – in some capacity – to figure out who is suited for what job.

After that, think about how to get youreself into one of those jobs. The waitressing at night is understandable, but you should use that extra energy at night to position yourself to land a job that is really good for you.

You don’t have to have a job you don’t like. Really. Way more people are crying at work than you can imagine – it’s not that crazy. I cried at work. I found that I felt better if I took a book to the bathroom and I read instead of crying.
