Why isn’t my podcast getting more traction?
I created this podcast about health and wellness. After putting in 2 years of consistent work, it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. I started it to help others get through some of the tough stuff I went through. And even though the format includes interviews with folks who have gone through the same thing, some are best selling authors, it still has no real following.
What’s missing?
People don’t want to be told what to do by a know-it-all. People want to be told what to do by someone struggling to do the right thing every day. The best examples of that are bloggers, though, not podcasts. Maybe this is just my own bias, but I think it’s a more literary endeavor to write about one’s own struggle.
If you say I was great at this, then there is no story unfolding. You already know how to do it so why follow your adventure?
Also, in general podcasts work best as detective work about a topic – 1619 about slavery, Lexicon Valley about linguistics, TrueAnon about Jeffrey Epstein.
When you choose a topic choose the medium that best fits the topic — or vice versa, but you need a match.
