What is the magic that makes people read a blog?

I’ve created a blog, but after 3 years it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. I started it to help others get through some of the tough stuff I went through, and I have interviews as well. But I’m still have no real following. How can I get a bigger following?

People don’t want to be told what to do by a know-it-all. People want to be told what to do by someone struggling to do the right thing every day just like everyone else. People want to see your hard work.

Leo Babaua’s blog works because he works hard to have a simple life every day and tells you how he’s doing it.

Seth Godin works hard to come up with one small, smart, new idea every day and teaches you to do it by watching him.

Tyler Cowan challenges himself to change his thinking on topics. And he pushes himself to go outside his intellectual comfort zone and he takes you with him.

These people are not writing about what they’ve already done. They are doing the hard stuff right there in front of you.

People who are successful in blogging are teaching through doing. if you say I was great at this, then there is no story unfolding. you already know how to do it so why watch you now?
